Eden: Aunty Looi

Posted by pelf on July 29, 2007

I do not have a picture of Aunty Looi so you will just have to be contend at reading the post, but I will make it more bearable by having it short and sweet :)

Aunty Looi takes care of all the children with disabilities at the Children’s Hostel. The last I heard, there were 16 children under her care, and some of them are not big enough to go to school yet. So can you imagine all the noise and havoc created by these kids?? I’m sure they always drive Aunty Looi up the wall!

When I was at Eden Handicap in June, it was the school holidays so most of the children were back at their respective homes, except for a couple of them. I’m sure life was more bearable during the school holidays as the constant shouting and fighting and talking among the children is dramatically reduced.

Aunty Looi cleans and takes care of Yoshini (more on her later) every morning as the other children were older and could take care of themselves. Aunty Looi does not have time to cook lunch because the children really occupy most, if not all, of her time. She was always in the kitchen washing and cleaning and cooking rice and in the toilet washing clothes. And if wasn’t doing any of the cleaning and washing, she would be feeding and cleaning Yoshini or helping her “release herself”.

I have also met Theresa at the Children’s Hostel when she came over to help Aunty Looi clean the kitchen cabinets. Photo credit: Eden Newsletter — Nandos Treat
