The Giving Hands

The Eden Day Care and Hostel first opened its doors on 23 June 1994. It was established to fulfill the therapeutic, educational and welfare needs of children with disabilities. One of the main objectives is to fulfill the rights of the children with disabilities to basic education, and it is done by providing the children with disabilities with an opportunity to learn how to read and write.

Eden Handicap also tries to enroll these children with disabilities into special schools in the state.

We strive to provide a conducive environment and relevant services for the development of children with disabilities. By means of teaching new skills, proper mental and physical development and providing the opportunity to interact with other disabled, the centre serves to motivate these special people with the hope that they would someday be able to contribute to society, be accepted and given the respect they justly deserved.

To achieve their mission, Eden Handicap provides FREE services to the children with disabilities, such as:

• physiotherapy
• education
• activities in the form of daily living skills, e.g. do the dishes

Besides providing the above services, Eden Handicap also looks into the area of educating parents of children with disabilities on the importance of accepting and handling their children. Many of these children are neglected due to the ignorance of their own family members, or due to their parents’ time constraint.

There is indeed a desperate need for such a service centre for people with disabilities, as can be seen through the overwhelming response Eden handicap has had received.

Today, as we look back, we are thankful for God’s wonderful work in the lives of people who have come to us. Our efforts have not been in vain, for slowly but surely, we see the results of our labour.
