Eden: Computer Vocational Training

Posted on Jul 29, 2007 and filed under Blogathon 2007, Charity

The Computer Vocational Training began on a part-time basis in 1993 with local volunteers tutoring the disabled. From there, we progressed to organising full-day programmes running on six months, training people with disabilities in the following:

  • Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Coral Draw
  • Using the Internet
  • Chinese type-setting

In January 1998, the Computer Vocational Training Sheltered Workshop was set up as Eden Handicap believed that Information Technology was one of the areas suitable for people with physical disabilities.

However, our disabled friends could not secure employment elsewhere, as most premises were not disabled-friendly. Thus Eden Handicap ventured into the market providing computer services including instant quality name cards, invitation cards, calendars/diaries, invoices/receipts, stickers, certificates, t-shirts, booklets, leaflets, banners and others, simultaneously creating opportunities for employment for the disabled after they have been formally trained at Eden Handicap.

This period of being engaged in employment with Eden also prepares the disabled to a professional standard that is comparable with the standards expected of the employment market. The computer vocational training office is located at:

1 Jalan Sir Hussein
11600 Penang
Malaysia
Tel: +604 826 0717
Person-in-Charge: Julie
