The Recycling Unit of Eden Handicap was started in June 1997 to encourage people with disabilities to become self-confident and independent. The Recycling Unit is one of the main sources of income for the Eden Handicap and moreover, recycling supports the global call to save the environment!! :)

The Recycling Unit “warehouse” is located at the following address:
102-E Lengkok Kampung Jawa 2
Kawasan MIEL
11900 Bayan Lepas
Penang,
Malaysia
Tel/Fax: +604 644 2912
Person-in-Charge: Peggy
The trainees are either physically or intellectually challenged. Eden Handicap undertakes to include the intellectually-challenged in their development programmes especially in recycling because they realise that it is difficult for them to be trained in other programmes. Through the recycling programme, the intellectually-challenged are given a chance to feel that they can actually contribute to the society and the environment! :) Moreover, recycling is a very suitable job for the intellectually-challenged under supervision of the physically disabled.
The training takes on a simple “buddy system” concept. Coupled with moral and emotional support, Eden Handicap’s Recycling Unit makes a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and their families.

I think Malaysians are very unaware of the importance of recycling. I mean…being in the Europe for a few years now, I can see that they put so much emphasis on recycling but what do we have in Malaysia?
If only the government in malaysia can spread the words about how recycling can help the environment (and also the handicapped people as you’ve highlighted here)…… =(

Malaysians knew the importance of recycling, but how many of us actually keep the cans, newspapers, recyclable things? I seriously feel that some parties need to stop spending so much money printing ads for their campaigns, but at the same time, start recycling too! (=
