Done!

Posted by pelf on August 17, 2007

I have finally finalized all donations sent in by my foreign sponsors and have arranged with SapiensBryan to cash them out from my PayPal account. Some of my sponsors did not send me their pledges, but I’m not going to continue harassing them because it might scare them from sponsoring me again next year. So yeah, whether or not you pledged for the fun of it, only you know.

I am also done vetting the Blogathon posts, corrected some grammar and spelling mistakes, and made a few changes to some posts which didn’t really make sense after the Blogathon, I’ve removed the SPONSOR ME links because it’s no longer applicable :)

So yeah, that basically sums up everything Blogathon-related. But that doesn’t mean that I’m leaving this blog as it is. We shall see how things turn out, OK? :)

Post-Blogathon note

Posted by pelf on August 4, 2007

I know this post-Blogathon note is about a week behind time but I’ve been catching up with a lot of things after the Blogathon, so yeah..

Over the next few days — or weeks, depending on how much time I can spend doing this — I will be doing some cleaning up on the Blogathon posts because I am sure there are bound to be mistakes (spelling, grammar, facts) in those posts since each of them was written in less than 30 minutes. So if you happen to come across spelling errors or whatever, please let me know, and I will make the necessary changes as soon as I possibly can.

Meanwhile, do take some time to read my disability-related posts or better still, bookmark the entire Blogathon 2007 category. Who knows, it could be an inspiration to you :)

Meet Colin Beavan, the no-impact man

Posted by pelf on May 19, 2007

Before I tell you about Colin and his no-impact experiments, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Can you live without making any NET impact on the environment?
  • In other words, no trash, no carbon emissions, no toxins in the water, no elevators, no subway, no products in packaging, no plastics, no air conditioning, no TV, no toilets…
  • What would it be like to try to live a no-impact lifestyle? Is it possible?
  • Could it catch on? Is living this way more fun or less fun? More satisfying or less satisfying? Harder or easier? Is it worthwhile or senseless? Are we all doomed or is there hope?

These were the questions that Colin Beavan hoped to find answers to. And more. In his own words:

No Impact Man is my experiment with researching, developing and adopting a way of life for me and my little family—one wife, one toddler, one dog—to live in the heart of New York City while causing no net environmental impact. To do this, we will decrease the things we do that hurt the earth—make trash, cause carbon dioxide emissions, for example—and increase the things we do that help the earth—clean up the banks of the Hudson River, give money to charity, rescue sea birds, say.

Colin, his wife and their daughter (and the dog) are an amazing lot. They have recently turned off their power and he’s only using a solar charger to power his computer. And they recently made their own bread!!

Hop over to the No Impact Man blog for the other half of his experiments.
