Chemo Angels — Support for people with cancer

Posted by pelf on July 18, 2007

Lisa @ Snarkalicious! and her cousin have chosen to represent Chemo Angels — an organization made up of volunteers (like Lisa!) who support those people going through chemotherapy with cards, notes or small gifts on a weekly basis.

Chemo Angels is a volunteer organization dedicated to adding a ray of sunshine to the lives of those undergoing IV chemo treatment. We believe people going through the physical, emotional and mental rigors of chemotherapy deserve some encouragement. Many of our Chemo Angel volunteers are cancer survivors themselves, or people whose lives have been affected by cancer in some way. Our common denominator is a desire to brighten the lives of cancer patients while they are going through this challenging time.

On a more personal note, as shared by Lisa in the Blogathon forums:

I got to see the Angels in action when my mom had a mastectomy. She was put on the “special assignments” list and probably got 50 cards sending her well wishes! She looked forward to the mail every day. It was truly a blessing to her — she couldn’t get over how people who didn’t even know her would send a card! If you know someone who could use a little sunshine, I unreservedly recommend Chemo Angels.

Now, Lisa and her cousin managed to raise USD 1,500 for the Children’s Cancer Center last year, and they’re hoping to top that for Chemo Angels. Go give them some love, will ya? :)
