The Iron Chef is all for the National Kidney Foundation

Missy @ Iron Chef Moo is blogging for the National Kidney Foundation this year.

National Kidney Foundation

The National Kidney Foundation, Inc., is a major voluntary health organization that seeks to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation. In other, simpler-to-understand terms, the National Kidney Foundation provides education and counseling for people who suffer from chronic kidney diseases, transplant recipients, living donors, and their families, as well as funding for research to find a cure for kidney-related diseases.

Long time friends know that I blog in honor of my best friend, David, who was diagnosed with Alport Syndrome in November, 2003. David’s transplant is imminent - he was just greenlighted for surgery, as his bloodwork indicates that the numbers are “right” (in other words, David is very sick), and is scheduled for transplant on July 25th. He’s luckier than most - he has a related, living donor and will be getting his transplant at Stanford, the center with the highest one year survival rates in the nation. He’s in good hands…but it doesn’t make the need for research to stomp out Alport Syndrome any less important.

So what is Missy planning for the big day?

Sponsors who pledge $5 or more will receive a link in the sidebar to their blog, website or forum from from Missy’s Iron Chef Moo. Sponsors who pledge $10 or more will get to vote in a poll to choose 4 theme ingredients from a list for Blogathon Day - Alex, Ernie and Missy will be playing Iron Chefs, and they will be cooking dishes throughout the day a la Iron Chef, documenting as they go with posts and photos.

And to add to the fun, they will also be auctioning off a copy of Iron Chef: The Official Book, with the proceeds of the auction going to the National Kidney Foundation.
